Where to stay in Siem Reap – Mandalay Inn
When I went to visit Siem Reap and Angkor Wat in Cambodia in October 2011, with my friend Monika we decided to stay in the hotel Mandalay Inn. It was recommended to us by some friends who stayed there before and loved their stay. And you know, word of the mouth is the best so we did the same and chose Mandalay Inn as our place to stay.
Mandalay Inn hotel was opened in 2003 and after moving to a bigger new building, nowadays it is the place of 36 rooms. is actually a budget hotel in a quieter area of Siem Reap, far away from all the hustle and bustle of the town which is what I personally prefer.
The location is extremely safe but still in a walking distance from ATMs Old market, Pub street and banks. The hotel is run by family so expect to see all the members of the family in here, from little babies to children going to school and their parents. They all made us feel as part of the family. We talked a lot with all the members and I will always remember the smiles on their faces. Such a helpful and cool staff!
It’s not only friendly atmosphere that makes you want to stay for long, Mandalay Inn offers clean nice room and comfortable beds. Hotel offers rooms with single beds, twin beds, queen beds or even family rooms as it’s a perfect place not only for budget travelers but also for families.
TV, hot shower, towels, fan and air con could not fit better with the traditional Khmer wooden furniture which is one of the characteristics of Mandalay Inn. You can find also the big living room on the first floor decorated with it.
Drinking water is available at the lobby and free pick-up from the airport, bus or boat station in case you book online for at least 2 nights. There is free wifi and even computers down in the lobby for you to use if you didn’t bring your laptop. One of the highlights of the hotel is the roof top gym with an excellent view.
What you really have to do when in Mandalay Inn is to try the food in the restaurant. The whole meal menu is just $5 and you will get soup, main dish, water and fruit. As the main dish I ordered chicken and I still remember how it tasted. It was one of the best meals I had during 3 months in Asia. Seriously!
They offer contemporary Cambodian and Myanmar home-made cuisine for reasonable prices from 7am to 10pm. I heard that Khmer Cambodian food is not really tasty but if you want to completely change your opinion, go to eat to Mandalay Inn :D
The mouth-watering taste of the local ingredients in the restaurant is accompanied by a couple of pretty statues around you and photos from the temples on the wall. I was in love with the historical decorations in the hotel.
Mandalay Inn friendly staff can help you to buy both domestic and international flights and bus tickets to Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos. The travel agency that is the part of the hotel will help arrange tours around Angkor Wat for you, call a taxi, tuk tuk, van or a motorbike for you.
When I visit Siem Reap again, I will definitely stay in Mandalay Inn again. The smile of all the staff made my first stay a memorable experience. No wonder the hotel won ”The Best Performance Hotel Award” in November 2010 from the Ministry of Tourism.
