Why I travel
People ask me what I do in my free time. I say TRAVEL. People ask me what I love. I say TRAVEL. People ask me what I spend all the money for. I say TRAVEL. People ask me what I could not live without. And once again I say TRAVEL. So now the question is WHY I TRAVEL? What is so great about traveling? How does it make me feel?
I travel because it makes me look at the world, people and things more carefully, see things I would never notice otherwise, pay more attention to all the details, find something good in everything. I travel because after every trip I feel more intelligent, full of new energy and adventures. I become more patient (I still need a lot more!), more understandable, more tolerant, more flexible, more positive, more open to new ideas. I try to complain less. Travel gives my life the fulfillment. Like fish cannot live without water or all animals and human beings without air, I cannot live without traveling. It’s my life style. It’s what I live for.
Travel gives me the adrenalin I need, the excitement I need.
Travel improves my sense of orientation.
It saves me from boredom and gets me to amazing places.
I have a chance to explore different cultures, different habits, different weather and its influence on people, learn foreign languages, meet new people.
It makes me understand better why people are the way they are.
When I travel I enjoy to maximum every second because the same second will never repeat.
I have a lot of fun everywhere I go because every place has something special to see. I travel to get the experience I’d definitely never get while staying in the same one place for all my life.
Travel changes me a lot. Seriously, A LOT.
Having the possibility to observe so many different cultures I’ve become 100% anti-racist, I tolerate all the religions and political views.
It’s everyone’s own decision to choose what they want to believe in and how they want to be; and on the other hand it’s stupid to be a racist as no one had a choice when it came to skin colour.
I do not treat people according to which type of car they drive (usually you only see old disgusting perverted men in wonderful cars anyway) or if they wear a Versace dress, D&G sunglasses and a Louis Vuitton handbag.
Travel teaches me to see what is in people’s inside.
Travel teaches me how to deal with people.
Travel teaches me to understand non-verbal communication and use body language in every day conversation.
It teaches me to be more extroverted and appreciate nice people more.
At the same time I learn to handle difficult situations by myself.
Travel makes my life easier because I realize we cannot be all the same and like the same things.
Travel shows me you will never be happy when you make other people upset on purpose.
Travel gives me something new every day.
Travel takes my sadness away. It gives me hope.
Travel makes my past with unforgettable memories, gives the meaning to my present and forms a big part of my future.
I travel because it changes the way I look at the world.
I’ve started to take every moment, whatever bad it can be, as something that makes me stronger and braver.
Something that transforms my personality in a good way, makes me more mentally stable and be able to confront problems of any kind.
You can throw me anywhere in the world and I know I will take care of myself. My mom describes it in the best way ”You can’t get lost anywhere, girl.”
I dare say that people usually do have big dreams, but the majority just dream about doing or having something they wish for, however, they never really do anything to get it.
It’s very common in the area where I come from. So sad, isn’t it? Some years ago I decided this was not going to happen to me. I live just once so I don’t want to waste my life just trying to survive instead of living my life properly. I didn’t want to wait till I’m old , save money and then maybe make my travel dream come true in the age of 60. Or maybe I would have a heart attack or die in a car accident before I could ever start traveling. You never know. It’s said the wise learn from other people’s mistakes so I learnt from my dad who spent more than 25 years before he finally bought himself a motorbike again – one of his life dreams. So I stood up and said NO to dreaming about fulfilling my dreams. I deserve to live my dream NOW. And I’m happy to say that’s what I do. Living my biggest dream. TRAVEL.
You know when you really love a song and each time you listen to it you are so excited you get goose-skin and your hair is up all over. Or the way you feel when your lover is next to you. Or the joy in your dog’s eyes when you play with him. Or when your child is born and you have him/her in your arms for the first time.
Or the minute your mother sees you after a long long time and she bursts into tears from happiness and squeezes you so hard when hugging you can’t breathe. All these feelings are so intense they are difficult to explain.
I feel very similar when I travel… when I see a massive historic building, climb a mountain, when I sunbathe on a white sand beach with friends, swim in a crystal clear water, enjoy a breath-taking view of a city, when I enjoy wind in my hair during a boat trip or explore history and habits of local people. This is exactly the WHY I travel.
To feel all this because let’s be honest, our life is about emotions and feelings a lot. Perhaps the best way to describe how I feel when I travel is that I jump from happiness :)
I find it healthy to change places from time to time, it keeps me moving and fresh. Keeps me alive. Makes me live every single second of this short life.
Travel makes me a better person. Travel makes me what I am. So this is why I travel, what about all you guys? Do you travel because of the same reasons or something totally different?

When people ask me why I like to travel so much, I just say “WHY THE HELL NOT?” The reasons are infinite and obvious to me but I like how you have articulated some of them, especially “Travel teaches me to understand non-verbal communication and use body language in every day conversation.” This is great. One of the reasons I was so terrified to go to a country where I did not speak the language was because I would have no way to communicate. But you make it clear that you can become more in touch with other facets of communication and understand all people better no matter the language.

I agree, if travel makes you happy then keep on traveling! I am the same, I can’t stop booking flights to places, it’s like an addiction! I’ve just booked flights to Sardinia for the end of January.

I agree with ya Alexandra. Travel is nourishment for the soul (don’t steel that). :-)
Hey, how do you get those pics in the air? You’re quite high and the pics, especially the one in this post are so clear.
See ya on the road,
Mike
