Everyone has a dream of travelling in Venice, one of the most romantic place on the earth.
Churches, squares, museums, festivals, local cuisine… too many things to see and to do, it seems like you will never have enough time to see/do enough. Indeed, here are some tips to help you enjoy the best of Venice.
4 Tips to enjoy the best of Venice
1. Go straight to St. Mark
especially for those coming to Venice for the first time. Saint Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and the Museums of St. Mark’s Square, they are the most famous and on the top of all the lists of all time – it cannot be without a reason.
After all, you are already in Venice, why not visit the no.1 landmark? And maybe also the no.2, 3 and 4?
2. Slow down and make your day less busy
Actually, it is impossible to see all the city in only one day (or one trip). So, don’t make your schedule too intensive. Just take it easy, try to explore Venice in a slow travel style. And here are some ideas:
Tour of the Grand Canal
A journey along the Grand Canal, to admire the history and splendour of Venice, through the century-old palaces adorning either side of this famous canal.
Tour of small canals
Take a ride along the smaller canals of Venice, to discover the other face of the city. Going under bridges, from squares to gardens… A unique experience to be enjoyed!
Murano glass tour
Murano is famous for its glassworks, an age-old activity that has kept its traditions intact to this day. Its worth a half-day tour in Murano, to find out how the so sophisticated glass is made and learn a little about its history in the Glass Museum.
3. Move with a Water Taxi
Despite it is more expensive than vaporetto, which is the equivalent of a crowded city bus, water taxi the fastest mean of transport in Venice, plus, it has no timetable and can move in narrow canals.
It will save you a lot of time, which means you can spend more valuable time on what you are interested to do, instead of walking around under the heat – particularly useful in high season.
4. Live a night in Venice (and try spritz!)
If you don’t spend an evening in Venice, you will miss half of its charm. After sunset, the city will be illuminated by lights, restaurants and bars along the canals will be filled by locals and tourists. The best thing to do, at this point, is to have a taste of the “dolce vita”: try the appetizer, eat what locals eat, have fun with friends, take a walk with your loved ones… everything is just so romantic. Venice might be the most romantic city in Italy, right?
