5 reasons why I want to visit Norway
You might have noticed that I am more of a hot beach person than a freezing snow one. I do prefer warm destinations over the cold ones and I tend to run away from winter in Europe to warmer tropical climates. However, I also enjoy hiking in the mountains. That feeling once you reach the top of a mountain is priceless. There’s very few activities that give you such a rewarding feeling. I’m sure you know what I mean, right?
Last year, in summer 2016 I was lucky to spend 2 weeks in Sweden and Finland in July. I was so amazed with the lovely summer weather there. No sweating like crazy, just feeling fresh with pleasant breeze in the hair when hiking. And I could even sunbathe there! That trip of mine made me think about other Scandinavian destinations I should visit sooner than later.
Why would I like to visit Norway? It’s not only very safe for travelers, but also offers many unique experiences.
5 reasons why I want to visit Norway
1. landscape
I am 100% sure that you must have seen photos of people standing on the scenic Trolltunga, scary looking Kjeragbolten rock or travelers visiting Lofoten islands. Tourism in Norway has been seriously nourishing in the past few years and no wonder why. Norway was recently mentioned as one of the top destinations of 2017 also thanks to its many fjords out of which some are even registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. That’s how precious the fjords are.
2. pleasant weather
And of course, now I mean in summer, not in winter for me :)
Norway has perfect weather for hiking and for both city and nature exploring in summer months, let’s say June to September. No one feels like being too active when the air is suffocating. But that won’t happen in Norway, that’s for sure. Just in case be prepared for occassional rain and wind, but pray for nice sunny weather if you go hiking.
3. aurora borealis
Aurora borealis, or the greenish Northern lights/polar lights have been on my bucket list for years and I seriously cannot wait to see them. I am sure it would take my breath away! Norway is supposed to be one of the best places on Earth to watch the aurora. You need to go North to the Arctic latitude to see aurora borealis.
4. berries
If they grow so many berries as they do in Sweden and Finland, then I would be a happy girl there. Summer for me is connected with strawberries, blueberries, juniper berries and any other wild edible berries you can imagine. I am such a berry person and could eat berries for breakfast and lunch every day. Just berries with berries. Berries have so many nutrients I cannot get enough of them.
5. people
I’ve read a couple of case studies saying that the Norwegian people are some of the happiest nations in the world. In the United Nations World Happiness Report in 2013, Norway was on the second place right after Denmark. Would you believe it? I do admit I have met a couple of Norwegians when working as a flight attendant in the past, and they were all pretty cool and easy-going. No drama, that’s what I like.
