6 reasons to write a travel blog
Before September 2010 I had never even thought of writing a travel blog. I was not even reading any of the existed ones. Please forgive me now my fellow travel bloggers, but I was not even properly aware of the fact there are people writing a travel blog.
I was or too busy studying, working, traveling and doing sports, or too bored doing something uninteresting and wasting time doing things that did not bring me anything positive. However, the truth is I was always dreaming of writing a book or something, in spite of the fact that writing has never been something I am good at.
But then one night in September, all of a sudden the idea of my own travel blog just fell down from the sky. Literally. I thought it all through very well and I found even a few reasons to write a travel blog.
Here are my 6 reasons to write a travel blog:
1. The first reason I personally had, has nothing to do with travel itself – insomnia.
If any of you are insomniacs like I am, you definitely know then how horrible it can get sometimes. Especially during nights of full moon when I feel more awake at night then at day time. You just have to find yourself something to do and not to spend the night looking at the white ceiling of the room and moving from one side of the bed to another counting the sheep. It can be an advantage while you have to study for exams, for instance.
You have more time if you do not sleep. Not having to study any more, I spent many sleepless nights wondering what to do. To go and get drunk was not an option for me and there are not many more things you can do at night. A Scottish friend of mine, an insomniac too, suggested me to write something, similarly as he is writing some stories and plays while he can’t fall asleep. So one night I googled ‘travel blog’ and soon started writing mine. Keeps me occupied.
2. Share photos, adventures, knowledge and tips with friends and family.
If you love travel and photography like I do, and your loved ones are interested in your life on the road, a travel blog is the best way to do it all at once. Obviously on facebook or some other social networks you can share your pictures too, but it’s not that easy to share your experience and ideas about travel as well.
But if you write about it all on your travel blog, you will keep posted not only all your friends who do want to know about your life (and you will not have to tell it to each one of them separately which will save you some time, too), but also people with the same travel hobby who you have maybe never met or heard of.
3. Make a difference in the world.
For the 26 years I’ve been here on the Earth, I did not hesitate for a second that I want to achieve something I can be proud of and that will stay here even when I pass away. Something I dedicate my free time to and it is not just the waste of the time. Something people will remember about me.
And I don’t mean just my smile in the memories of family and best friends and fun times we have had together. It’s just a simple desire to be known for something. Does not have to be being world famous like a movie star or known for inventing a light bulb. Let’s say leave my own ‘product’ here, something just mine. And having a travel blog is exactly the unique thing as I express my own opinion and my point of view here.
4. Meet new people is one of the most important reasons to write a travel blog.
You will love the travel community and the feedback you get from your readers, trust me. You will find new friends and maybe travel buddies too, in case you do not have any and you find it too boring already to travel on your own. You will be more in touch with people who actually have the same passion to travel as you do which will give you a lot of motivation and great new ideas about how to improve your trips, travel cheaper, which terrific places to visit …
5. Use your online time and knowledge of html and PC skills for something practical.
No wasting it just playing pc games. If you are so addicted to PC and internet, all the social networks and other surfing as I am, you can spend the online time in a better way and do something worthwhile. Besides, you will learn so many things and improve your pc skills a lot when dealing with a travel blog as it’s more complex than it looks like. So if you enjoy traveling a lot but you still do not have a travel blog, what are you still waiting for? Good luck!
6. Have memories for yourself.
It is like a some kind of personal diary but more funny and with pictures. All in once.
