3 advantages of being from Slovakia
I was sitting at the balcony in my home town Snina in Eastern Slovakia thinking of the topics for my next articles. I wanted to write all the articles for the whole summer (July and August) within one week so then I could enjoy the summer working less. One of the topics that came to my mind was putting up a list of reasons why being from Slovakia is an advantage.
I honestly do think it is not a disadvantage to be from such a small country like Slovakia.
3 advantages of being from Slovakia
1. Slovak language
Having our own language which is not spoken in any other country means we can travel with friends and family and still speak Slovak with very few foreigners being able to understand us. When you speak about personal stuff, it’s always better when others do not have a clue. Cannot imagine if everyone understood our conversations about men we have with my best girl friend :D
This comes hand in hand with learning other languages. In Slovakia, learning a foreign language is somewhat obligatory at schools. Usually one foreign language, sometimes even two or more are taught at elementary and high schools, and even at some Universities depending on the subject area.
Nowadays more and more kindergartens try to incorporate English into their playing schedule, too. I was learning English since I was 7, then also Spanish since high school, and I even had Latin and Russian classes (not that I can remember much of it now).
And third advantage of having Slovak as a mother tongue is that us Slovaks can understand a little bit of many other Slavic languages. Czech is very similar and sometimes my brain does not even recognizes the difference between Czech and Slovak, they both come easy to me.
Then Polish, Croatian, Slovenian and some other languages can be understood somehow.
2. Heart of Europe
The location of Slovakia is perfect in a way. Of course I’d be happier if we had a long coastline, but being situated in the heart of Europe can also be an advantage.
We have 5 neighbooring countries: Czech republic, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland. The Central Europe location makes it easy to travel abroad any time. Within a few hours by car/bus/train you can reach another country from any place in Slovakia. That’s an easy way to check off 5 new countries of your bucket list.
3. Sexy women
Well, I’d appreciate more if I could say we have sexy men in Slovakia as that would come more handy to me personally. However, in my opinion Slovak women are a lot sexier than men.
For men in Slovakia it’s a good thing, as almost everywhere they look, there’s someone hot. Yes to eye candy!
For women in Slovakia it can also be a good thing, because being jealous of others’ sexiness might make you exercise more and eat healthier. You know, women do tend to compare themselves to other women. In this case some competitiveness won’t hurt, right?
Slovakia is well-known for attractive women, especially those until 40’s I’d say. Unfortunately, then many women stop taking care of themselves and keep on eating unhealthy Slovak cuisine which makes them put on weight. Hopefully this will not happen to me.
I’m doing all the necessary steps to avoid getting chubby, trust me!
Anyway, many Slovak women work as models around the world because boy, they do look amazing! And I’m glad I got at least some good Slovak genes, too :)
TIP: Read about 10 reasons why to visit Slovakia. If you don’t have my home country on your bucket list, put it there immediately.
Are you from Slovakia? If so, what other things would you add to my list? Are there any other dvantages of being from Slovakia? Share in the comments below.
