Best travel experiences
You remember when I won the Funniest travel blog 2012 award in London? If you have been following my blog for that long, then you know my price were flights with RoundTheWorldExperts. I was so happy I could fly for free to Canada, US and Mexico and explore those countries for 3 months. Well deserved, I think :)
Now a few days ago I was checking their website and found a list of 50 greatest travel experiences on Roundtheworldexperts. Surprisingly found only a handful experiences I’ve personally done.
After visiting 50 countries in my 32 years of existence, I’ve only done 8 out of the 50 experiences they recommend. Which means, I should travel even more :D
Out of their list I’ve been to:
Chichen Itza pyramids in Mexico (number 37 on the list) – pyramids are my biggest passion. I was obsessed with them already as a child and even wrote my final University thesis about the Aztecs, their religion and pyramids in Mexico. I’ve spent loads of time exploring many different ones, approx. 20 pyramids in Mexico. Chichen Itza is lovely, but there’s also hundreds of less touristy pyramids in Mexico.
Niagara Falls in Canada (number 36 on the list). I spent 3 weeks exploring Eastern Canada, it was actually thanks to the flights I won. During the trip I also paid a 3-day visit to the Niagara Falls. One of the activities I did there was a helicopter ride over Niagara Falls, incredible!
Floating Market in Bangkok (number 31 on the list). Honestly, I hated Bangkok on my first few days there in 2011. It was my first encounter with Asian culture, so let’s call it a big shock. But then the whole experience completely changed and I fell in love with the city. Revisited it many times during my 5 visits to Thailand.
Went snorkeling many times in the Philippines, but did not go diving (number 23 on the list). Philippines consist of 7,107 islands so you need to go snorkeling no matter what. The country is surrounded with underwater paradise. The last time I went snorkeling was in Coron and then in Bohol close to the Amorita resort. Philippines are my 3rd favorite country and it’s also because of the snorkeling and island life in general.
Hiked through Yosemite National Park in the US (number 21 on the list). It was on the same trip around the US, Canada and Mexico thanks to the flights I won, when I visited also the Yosemite park. I was taken there on a day trip from San Francisco to enjoy some nature. I could not stop hugging the giant sequioas, and get enough of waterfalls, rocks, trees and unforgettable views. Highly recommended!
Walked the streets of New York (number 18 on the list). Well, I broke up with my boyfriend exactly on the first night in NYC, so my experience there did not start great at all. But it all went upside down during the next 2 weeks there. NYC is a bustling city with loads of energy and charm, and it’s a must visit in the US.
Visited Angkor Wat (number 6 on the list). Hope it counts even though I did not really see the sunrise there because it was during the rainy season and it rained most of our time. So no Sun was visible at all. And parts of the temple were even flooded. Which only means I have to go back to see it in it full beauty :)
Flew over the Grand Canyon (number 2 on the list). They mention in a helicopter but we flew in a small plane which hopefully counts, too. It’s all about the views, right? I visited 2 rims of the Grand Canyon, two days in a row. Each rim was completely different to the other one, and we also exprienced a very different weather. It was nice, sunny and sometimes even hot on our West Rim tour on the first day, but the weather changed a lot on the following day in the South Rim, where it was sunny, but then windy and cold, and we even saw some snow flakes falling. It was the South Rim where we did the air tour.
