Chocolate massage at Blue Osa Spa
I guess it’s no secret any more that I spent the unbelievable 6 weeks at Blue Osa as a volunteer blogger promoting the eco-resort, its yoga retreats, spa, cuisine and tours.
And I also guess that if you know me very well, then there’s no need to explain you why out of all the health treatments at Blue Osa Spa I picked the one I did …
Chocolate massage …
It does sound like a paradise on Earth, doesn’t it?
I am 100% sure all the girls reading this article are wondering where to grab a piece of chocolate right now and already checking out the closest spa menus. And guys? Well, you are all imagining someone covered with chocolate … someone you could lick it from without getting a slap on your face …
Let me tell you, you can bet that a chocolate massage would make ANYONE consider licking even his/her own skin.
Wanting to lick myself during a chocolate massage was just one out of 150 things I learned volunteering at Blue Osa.
At least I hope so as I do not want to be treated as a weirdo :D
Let’s start from the beginning though … I booked a chocolate massage with Marcela, a sweet Costa Rican spa therapist of my age who I’d only heard great things about.
There’s that chocolate mud mask on the Blue Osa Spa menu or Cacao Organica body scrub but my skin was too perfectly tan to peel it off and the chocolate mud mask did sound like a blast too, but I would go on a walk along the beach when at Blue Osa and cover myself with clay from the river a few times per week. I didn’t need a mud overload, trust me.
So all I needed was pure chocolate (hm, I think that’s pretty much all I need to be happy every day till the end of my life … I am a woman, after all) and thus Marcela melted a local organic chocolate until she got it liquid enough to do a massage with.
I walked into the Spa room and just the simple fact of seeing a bowl with thick brown liquid waiting for me there put a smile on my face. It was our first longer conversation with Marcela, as she is even a bigger introvert than me (believe it or not, I would call myself an introvert) and straight I had to get naked so the chocolate didn’t get into my underwear. Well, I mean, what would I not do for my partner in crime – chocolate?
First, I lay down on my belly and Marcela started massaging my feet and legs with chocolate. It was a very gentle massage but all the chocolate smell was giving me goose bumps all over the body. On one hand it felt odd, on the other I was grateful it was not a sexy male therapist doing the massage instead as I would need to hold stronger to the massage bed in order to just stay calm …
Right, this is what an angel looking bowl of chocolate does to a female body … (if you ever wondered?!)
Then, the arms and my back followed … I flipped over and the same chocolate pleasure was done from the front.
I swear to God I would do anything to continue with the chocolate massage at Blue Osa Spa, if only it was possible. However, I am not that strong. At times it seemed like a mission impossible to keep calm and pretend being covered with the best thing on Earth was not a big deal.
But to be honest, Marcela and I both found it difficult to resist the temptation. Sometimes, you just have to say no, no matter how much of pain in the ass it might seem right? And this was exactly the case … No to making the chocolate massage longer than I could handle.
I was so much enjoying the experience that I forgot to ask Marcela to massage with chocolate my face too. Shame, next time!
Anyway, I was left there on the bed to enjoy the paradise for a few more minutes until the chocolate got deeper inside the skin and started to dry up.
After that, I used the outside shower to rinse the chocolate off my body. You know what they say? That you should listen to your body? Well, at that moment the chocolate was so stuck to my skin that I was sure it should stay there for ever … That’s what my body was telling me, right? But well, I played a good kid and washed it off. I mean after I tried and licked a bit of it with my finger :D
The smell of chocolate was simply making my eyes roll still even a few hours after the massage and it was the only time in my life when I could truly feel every single cell in my body … every cell screaming do not torture me any more!
But it was a very purifying torture leaving my skin glowing. Due to the high amount of antioxidants, pure cocoa beans left my skin smooth and moisturized.
And then I wondered, why all the guys were hugging me so much the days after … should I blame the chocolate smell? I was it was just us, the women, into chocolate … But you never know …

Spa therapists do the chocolate massage. Not sure if you could get any in India, but in a country like Costa Rica full of organic chocolate farms, it’s a very common treatment :)
