Chocolate treatment at Cariblue Hotel Puerto Viejo
When spending 5 nights at Cariblue Hotel in Puerto Viejo with my friend Pablo, I just had to experience it all. When I was in the area back in May 2012, I stayed at the Totem Hotel Resort but then it merged with the Cariblue when I returned in 2014. That was a good thing as now there was also Aqua Caribbean Spa to enjoy :)
And who else would be more excited about some wellness time than me?
Just imagine my pure happiness when I saw a chocolate massage on the spa menu. What? I was sold :)
I’ve had a few chocolate massages already around the world – my first chocolate massage at in Spa Chateau in Canada, a chocolate facial at Samasati Spa, or a chocolate full body massage at Blue Osa etc. I’m saying that not to make you jealous (maybe just a little bit), but to say each time it’s a very different procedure. The best thing about it is that the chocolate is full of antioxidants so I try to choose spas where they use pure organic local chocolate to keep the most benefits.
This time at Cariblue Hotel I was all naked again and covered with a few towels as the chocolate just gets everywhere. Karla, my sweet spa therapist was very caring when spreading the chocolate all over my back, and then cleavage and arms with a brush. The treatment focuses more on the healing properties of chocolate than the massage itself, very pleasant though.
We had a great photographer with us there, a cute girl from the staff and I was grateful for such great photos as usually I can only use maybe 2 or 3 if someone else is using my camera but now we ended up with tons of nice photos as she happens to have a very similar camera herself. Yay! That’s what I call ”coincidence :)
Each time Karla put hot chocolate somewhere on my body, then she covered it with banana leaves for a better effect.
I could easily fall asleep with the chocolate all over me. No doubt. But after maybe 20 minutes of meditation on the massage bed when I was left there on my own to enjoy the most, I had to get up and wash it all out of me as there was another spa treatment booked.
Well, the hot chocolate treatment at Cariblue Hotel Puerto Viejo was definitely both relaxing and fun.
My hot chocolate treatment at Cariblue Hotel Puerto Viejo was part of the Adventure and Spa project. Thank you so much, Karla for such a treat :)

I’d love to try a chocolate massage — never had one. Looks like you were very happy with yours. I did have a raw honey treatment once in Maui. So wonderful!

Raw honey is cool for your skin, too :) But chocolate is chocolate and I highly recommend you to try it once. PS: once will not be enough, trust me ;)
