Exotic Yoga Retreats in Costa Rica – Blue Osa day 1
When I was looking for a place where I could practice yoga for a few days and rejuvenate, I just Googled ”yoga in Costa Rica in March” and Blue Osa website came up with all the upcoming yoga retreats.
There were 2 of them with Gayle Olson from the Exotic Yoga Retreats that fit my dates very well. I was debating between a yoga retreat on the first or second week of March after spending February traveling around Panama and these 2 yoga retreats seemed like the best fit.
It’s a long story but I kind of ended up doing both retreats :)
After a long 8-hour bus drive from San Jose, I arrived in Puerto Jimenez and was picked up by Heidi, a female taxi driver with the nicest green eyes ever. She showed me the most important places in town, explained the wildlife in Osa Peninsula and drove me to Blue Osa.
I was welcomed by Michael, the manager, who took my details and walked me to my room I shared with Melinda (Mindy) – the sweetest woman I have ever seen in my life. The biggest surprise to me was that there’s no keys to the rooms. We simply leave them unlocked. And yes, it is completely safe :)
A lovely bag, a diary and some information about the Exotic Yoga Retreats was waiting for me on my bed. Yay, I will write down a diary every single day of the yoga retreat, I promised to myself.
It’s so humid and hot that I need to take a very quick shower and change into new clothes. I drank some water – we had cups with our names, so cute!
Then I walk along the Tamales beach just outside of the Blue Osa property, watch my first pinky sunset and the many fishermen. I am surrounded by thousands of walking crabs. One has to be careful where to walk in order not to step on them. I even meet Gayle Olson who is going to lead the yoga retreat walking along the beach, we hug for the first time and take a photo together. Gayle seems very positive and looks even younger than me :) She is so tall, fit, athletic and skinny, a perfect yogini.
It’s time for our first dinner together with the other yoginis who I will spend a week with. We introduce to each other, laugh, chat about yoga and life in general, about Italy … and enjoy probably the best cuisine I’ve had in a hotel.
Afterwards, we sat on the sofa and rocking chairs surrounded by geckos and cicadas and played a game to remember our names; and another funny game – before we all wrote one thing about us and then everyone is trying to guess the person who wrote it. Mine was ”I am obsessed with coconut oil and everything coconut.” Everyone has a great laugh about it and we can go to bed around 9.30 pm very tired, but in a good mood.
I finish the day writing the diary and reading all the information about the Blue Osa and the Exotic Yoga Retreats. Ear plugs and good night geckos. Grateful for my first day on my first yoga retreat in Costa Rica :)
