Where to stay in Guanajuato – hotel Casa Dionisio
In the heart of colonial and mining town of Guanajuato, a new hotel Casa Dionisio is located. Exactly in the pure historical centre, behind the Theatre, in one of the streets Callejon Salto del Mono No 1, after you climb a bit.
If you book a room in hotel Casa Dionisio, there is always someone to help you to carry your suitcase up the stairs, so please accept it as it is never-ending. When you leave, do the same.
The hotel was rebuilt only in 2010 by famous Mexican architect Christian Fabian Werge Padilla; the kitchen was still under the repair in 2011 when I visited. Due to the hotel’s location, you will never regret choosing to stay over here as all the rooms have the best view of Guanajuato. The University of Guanajuato and Parroquia will take your breath away when you see them at night from your balcony.
The hotel is a mixture of modern and traditional Mexico culture and history. It has only 4 rooms, 3 of them are suites and one standard. They do not carry numbers, but names: Alcatraz, Ranas, Sol y Luna. The curiosity of the hotel is that all its doors are made of wood and with images on them. For example, Alcatraz has the flower alcatraz on its doors and piles in the bathroom and on the floor of the room has the same image of alcatraz. The same happens with Ranas (frogs) and Sol y Luna (Sun and Moon).
Casa Dionisio offers its visitors even a better view from the terrace where you can get whenever you wish so as you get the key. The door that leads to the terrace is wooden as well and with images of musical instruments and Bermuda islands as the owner of the hotel is from there. Shame wifi does not get to the terrace yet. Anyway, it is a perfect place to enjoy the view and the quiteness of Guanajuato, have something to eat, drink or read a book. The hotel makes concerts at the terrace which you will never forget.
All the rooms are very clean and fully equiped with TV, the bathrooms are very colourful with typical Mexican azulejos around the sink. Sol y Luna and Ranas have a jacuzzi, Albatraz has a shower. The wooden furniture is all carefully chosen.
Downstairs there is a fireplace and harpsichord (keyboard with strings) where very probably you could hear the director Adriana Alonso Olivares playing. It was the first time in my life when I got the chance to listen to the unique music of this unique musical instrument. Do not miss it.
Where now lies the hotel, it used to be the old house of the famous painter Juventino Rosas Juárez which was restored to the very elegant hotel.
Ask gerente Adriana to give you a hotel card and a restaurant card and you get 10% discount in Casa Valadez which is one of the best restaurants in Guanajuato, just 5 min walking from the hotel. Situated at the main square with all the life of the square and life music inside the restaurant.
The best is to order comida corrida – menu of the day that starts at 2pm. I have to say I have never seen better and quicker service than here, the second I finished my meal, the waiter got me another one. So fast. Seriously, I was only finishing my last piece of the course and as soon I put down the fork, I got another course. You have to go there.
You have to visit Guanajuato. And when you do, stay over in Casa Dionisio. Its unique decorations and most of all its view of the whole colourful town, University and churches accompanied by a great music will leave you a lovely impression for ever.
My stay in Guanajuato was a press trip organized by hotel Casa Dionisio. Many thanks to them. I really enjoyed it. However, all the opinions in the post are honest and just my own as usal.
