The visitors center is open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Monday through Friday. It is filled with DVDs, CDs, books and many great photos.
If you want to celebrate some jazz history, you’ll want to check out The Village Vanguard. This is a landmark in the history of jazz and has been since it was first opened back in 1935. Some of the best jazz artists have played on the stage here, including Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis. Both veterans and newcomers to the jazz scene can be seen on the stage today at the Vanguard. If you want to visit, the entry fee is $35 and there is a drink minimum. It’s always best to show up as early as possible to get a great seat.
Smoke is a more informal type of jazz club that embraces the feel of jazz’s golden age. It is low key and allows people to come and go as they please. Some of jazz’s heavy hitters often play here, including Steve Turre, Ron Carter and Eddie Henderson. Latin jazz can be enjoyed on Sunday nights and you can enjoy world jazz on Wednesday nights as well. Not only can you enjoy the jazz at Smoke, but you can enjoy a variety of tasty American classic foods as well.
Of course, there are many other great places to check out if you want to enjoy New York’s jazz scene. The Blue Note is a popular club that hosts local and world renowned talent. Birdland, the Blue Water Grill and 55 Bar are other places you may want to check out. While you’re renting a place in New York, you can enjoy jazz in many areas of the city. In fact, you can enjoy visiting a new place every night so you get a bigger look at the jazz scene in the area.
