Lime in the Coconut – the first open air cinema on Ibiza
Do you remember when the other day I wrote about the unique Sol Wave House in Majorca, the first Twitter Experience Hotel in the world?
It’s called Lime in the Coconut and they came up with a special film and food idea and thus made the place the first Ibiza’s outdoor pop-up cinema. You can watch classic contemporary movies in the perfect setting under the Mediterranean stars being the only lighting around.
Lime in the Coconut cinema started operating in summer 2013 for the first time. In the months of June, July, August and September they delivered professionally run unique movie times in the heart of Santo Domingo monastery in Dalt Vila.
The new concept on the island has become so popular that last week, on November 17th they also launched a series of winter screenings throughout the months of November and December and this time in another unusual setting in Sluiz on Caretera Eivissa just before Santa Gertrudis on Ibiza. The first movie played here in winter season was Life of Pi. The cinema doors usually open at 17:00 and the movie starts at 17:30.
For just 9,50 euros you can enjoy a bag of gourmet popcorn (included in the ticket price) and watch a cool movie from your own beanbag with a group of friends on one of Spain’s most beautiful islands. Beanbags are by far my favorite little chill out place and ideal for watching a movie. You can also get rice crackers, different kinds of popcorn, salad, picnic bag, nachos with salsa, wine, beer, water and many soft drinks to go enjoy the memorable experience even better.
I have to give them thumbs up for the beanbags once again as if you ever find an outdoor cinema anywhere else on the Planet, they usually have just tough plastic or wooden chairs that are highly uncomfortable or you need to watch a movie from your car. I mean, it is romantic too but not that comfy like resting on a luxury beanbag. Comes in handy especially for super tall people like me who need extra space for legs and stretch after a while to avoid the back pain.
Next movie will be played today November 24 – Beasts Of The Southern Wild (the cinema opens already at 16:30 and starts screening at 17:00 so hurry up) and then on December 1 they will feature modern classic Crash. The movies are in English with Spanish subtitles. Check their website or facebook page for the upcoming movies.
Lime in the Coconut organize as well open air screenings at multiple locations with their Backyard cinema and even can come to your house for a private screening with your friends and/or family.
I wish there were outdoor movie places like this one on every island around the world. Well, to be honest, I would not mind to add one to each city too to remind us we should take some time to relax in this stressful world of the 21st century. Finding time to chill out is the key to happiness in these busy days.
