Packing for a trip to the UK
Pondering about what to wear and when to wear it, whether you going to be too warm or cool, packing to go on holiday can be a complete nightmare! When it comes to packing, less can defiantly more! Whether it’s a chic city break in London, a cottage holiday in the Lake District or a coastal retreat in Cornwall the same fundamental packing rules apply.
So here is my definitive guide to what to pack:
Think about the weather
We all know the UK climate can be extremely unpredictable. One day its sunny, the next rain and cold and then it’s sunny with a cool breeze and then the snow arrives! Sometimes you can even experience all of this in one day! The key to surviving this without having an absolutely huge and overflowing bag is to wear layers. Wearing layers means that you can add more clothes or take some away depending on the temperature. Thankfully it’s in fashion too so you look pretty cool and funky at the same time! Make sure you pack clothes that all go together and then you can mix and match to suit the day. With only a few items of clothing you can have endless wardrobe choices, meaning you will never get bored.
You never know when bad weather is about to strike so a nice coat or jacket is essential at pretty much any time of year. A really good pair of shoes or boots is a must too. Whether you are planning to be hiking in the mountains or enjoying walking round a city, a good pair of shoes will keep you happy.

It could be really sunny!
It’s not all doom, gloom and rain. The UK does get some really great weather with temperatures easily reaching 25°C or higher in the summer. When it’s sunny everyone flocks to the beach and communal parks to soak up some rays, just don’t forget your sunscreen and camera to catch those unforgettable memories on film!
Think practically
If you are a student then make sure you have your student id on you at all times. Producing a valid student card can bag you some great discounts on days out, with as much as 10% to 20% off. Well worth remembering to pack it! A good map is a good idea, especially when having to navigate the London underground, but if you don’t already have one they are usually easy to pick up. One final thing, don’t forget your umbrella, just in case!

Yes, I personally always take a photo of the town and everything from Google Maps to my phone so I have it on me all the time and then obviously I pick up a map once I get to the town, there are usually free maps everywhere ;)

It always better to get/buy maps when you arrive to destination as in such case you’ll get latest map with all updates. Some places change to quickly.
