People I met in Mexico
As I write this, I am sitting on the floor at the Mexico City airport on the 6th June 2011. Like I said in an earlier post, I love meeting new people. Right now I am just thinking about all the amazing people I met in Mexico.
Eating chocolate turtles I am thinking about my lovely friend BASTIAN who used to eat them with me the last days. This German guy totally changed my opinion I had about German people. I never really liked the language, but apart from that I had never met a German person I could mark with a label ‘I like’. Until I met Bastian. I mean he is not typical German in many things, but anyway he opened my eyes and now I can say I have nothing against strict, closed-minded German people. This guy, with his so natural behaviour and charming personality, thought me a lot, especially how to ENJOY THE MOMENT!
I have to admit, my last week in Mexico made me think I do kinda believe in destiny. I used couchsurfing to stay with ARTURO in Veracruz, and Bastian is his friend who was just visiting him. Then my plan was to go to Puebla and then Mexico City, and Bastian had exactly the same plan, even the dates were the same! So tell me, was it not a destiny I chose to stay at Arturo’s who had Bastian over there, too? So for a week I had the best travel buddy in 3 different towns, which was absolutely awesome! And Arturo, the couchsurfing friend, and his parents, helped us a lot with everything and we had a nice time together in Veracruz and then in Puebla. People with good heart still do exist in this bad world! Now I know it! And Arturo was one of many Mexicans who said ”F***ING EUROPEANS, ALWAYS COMPLAINING” which is so true and I only realized it there in Mexico how we Europeans always complain, not good!
But 11 weeks before that I met so many other people who will stay in my heart forever. I still can’t believe I made so many friends all over Mexico who influenced me in a way. From tourist guides, couchsurfing friends, receptionists, drivers, travel agents, hotel managers to travelers and people I just met at the street, bars, restaurants or archeological sites. All of them of different skin colour, nationality and social environment. But they all have something in common – funny and interesting. All with a label A GOOD PERSON. All thought me something very important.
All the people I met in Mexico thought me how to live. How to enjoy every moment. How to laugh. How to make a good thing out of the bad. How to see everything in a positive way. How to forget about the everyday problems because when you are alive, nothing is a problem! They showed me how to wake up early to enjoy the sunrise and go to sleep late after the romantic sunset. They thought me how to find something interesting even in the most boring place.
I learned from all those who I met in Mexico, that I am not the only one who leads her life according to CARPE DIEM. I realized that there are more people who have no exact plans for the future. Maybe many of them have no idea about what to do next, but almost all of them know 100% what they do not want to do (like me.) I learned that sometimes NOT TO BE SURE is not bad at all and that not having the things planned until the last second gives you more freedom to live, to change your plans if by any chance you meet some great people like me and want to spend time with them.
All the people that crossed my way from 10th March to 6th June 2011 were so unique and so different from anyone else, they will have to occupy a part of my heart even if I tried to kick them out of it, mission impossible! All those people of great character, interesting personality and good heart made my stay unforgettable.
Let’s start with KRISTÝNA and RODRIGO who did everything to make my first days in Mexico City very nice!
Then RADKA is one of those people with money who are still humble, simple and so so nice to the others!
TONY who I was talking to for years online but met for the first time, who thought me you can have a simple life but be happy.
Then MIGUEL ÁNGEL and NATALI, who thought me how to enjoy every single moment in between the busy work hours.
CLAUDIO, JUAN PABLO, MEDERICK, MIKE, JOHNY, ALEX, ESTEBAN, CARINA and all the other amazing guys in San José Iturbide who just live the life to maximum and from the first second invite a stranger into their life.
CHAVÍN whose love to flying made me enjoy it even more!
DON PANCHO AND HIS WIFE who are the best example that long happy marriages still exist in the 21st ct of divorce and unfaithfulness.
MAURICIO, who with his love to dogs, horses and other animals, found love somewhere deep in me I did not know existed.
Then SAÚL ULISES who showed me that some gentlemen still exist.
JOSÉ LUIS who was one of those in love with my charms even though I was permanently annoyed by something.
RICARDO whose great hospitality was unbelievable and who treated me like his own child.
And JOEL was a good example that you can have a great conversation with a stranger you just met 2 minutes ago.
Both CARLOS, managers of the hotels, who treated me very nice and showed that just with a simple smile you can make someone’s day. Another
CARLOS, who is one of those people you will miss just after half day of talking to them at the beach.
DON ÁNGEL, an owner of a hotel who still wants to enjoy life at his 80’s and have sex with his 27-year-old girlfriend so he runs every day and drinks natural fruit and vegetable juices.
ERIKA and CHARLY with 2 children (GIO and SAAID)who made me part of the family and whose children’s cute smiles I will never forget.
VÍCTOR, the best and the funniest tourist guide I have ever seen in my life who became one of my best friends because he dares to make fun of me every 2 days when he talks to me since we met. And who showed me a tour can be a huge fun and not just another boring information.
ANJAN, a Canadian guy, great for conversations and who was taking me a lot of pictures and I did not have to force him :D
LUIS, CARLOS and the oldest brother from Mexico City who mean there are still so good relationships among some siblings that they go on holidays together.
MARGARITA and ELENI, two Greek girls; and OMRI and TOVI, a young couple from Israel who made a boring tour such an interesting day!
ATSUSHI and YUSUKE, two Japanese guys, who I believe where part of the destiny as we met by accident more times in Chiapas; and who for my biggest surprise showed a huge interest in other countries and cultures and were full of fun (I don’t know why but I had never thought this about the Asian people.)
All the couples I met who admired me for traveling on my own.
A 6 year old native Indian boy who was the happiest child ever even not having anything.
OSCAR and RAQUEL, two amazing people who treated me as a queen!
LUIS, whose laugh was the best remedy for everything.
ALFONSO, LEVI, LALO and MIGUEL, four guys living together, who showed me there is always space for good people even if the place is too crowded already, and who all four with their unbelievably sexy bodies where the exception to the rule and showed there are good-looking Mexican guys (Thank God for that!)
ABRAHAM, a cute van driver, who became my listener each time I had a problem, was bored or just needed to talk to someone. We were beating each other up with our bad luck, funny stories!
PEPE, a funny tourist guide, who showed me even Mexican people can feel hot.
ALFONSO who made me finally lose the fear of snorkeling after the accident I had in
ISSIS, who is struggling every day to give a better life to her son and who was the only female tourist guide I had in Mexico and so caring, brought presents for us!
Waiters in La Ceiba restaurant who made my day every morning in Playa del Carmen throwing timid eyes at me. And all the people from travel agencies and other hotels and hostels where I stayed who helped me a lot.
All these people mentioned above entered my heart without any key and will not get out of it. Hope they will not even try. I am so happy I met them all. Really appreciate everything they did for me because thanks to them, my 3-month stay in Mexico was the time of my life.
I just hope I gave something to all the people I met, too.
From all my heart, THANK YOU ALL! Kisses and hope to see you all again.
It only takes a minute to remember someone,
an hour to like someone,
a day to love someone,
but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
