Where to stay in Puerto Vallarta – hotel Catedral
Planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and wondering where to stay at night? Do not know which hotel to choose from so many? Let me help you. I stayed 2 nights in hotel Catedral, which is one of the newest hotels in Puerto Vallarta. It was inaugurated only in September 2010 after approximately 6 months of the reconstruction of the old building. Like all the buildings in Puerto Vallarta, according to the law of the town, it has white wall and red roof.
The location of the hotel is in the pure centre, everything is so close, in a walking distance. The beach and all the beach bars and restaurants are about 7 minutes walking, the cathedral Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and the main square are just 4 minutes walking and the long beach boardwalk is 2 blocks.
One minute from the hotel there is a market with handicrafts. The hotel is situated at the same street as the Cathedral. There are buses passing just at the corner next to the hotel, a bus which takes you to the bus station as well. Banks, restaurants and bars are very close too. But located in the heart of beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Hotel Catedral still remains very quiet. It is a place where you can hide from all the rush in the town.
Hotel Catedral Boutique is very special. They will welcome you in a very Mexican way – with a glass of Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus flower infusion). All the decorations you see there, images, lamps, beds, flowers, sofas, etc, you can buy from them. They should have the same things in different colours, just ask for what you like. The pictures you see at the walls of the hotel are for sale as well. They belong to the Gallery, you can visit it to check more pictures.
All the decorations are hand-made and from different states of Mexico. For example the dolls in every room are from Michoacán, the small cathedrals are from Guanajuato, from Guerrero there are some religious souvenirs at the wall etc. Even the shampoo, soap and all the cosmetics you get are natural and made by hand. You have the chance to choose from 10 fragrances of soaps. And all the women working in the hotel wear a shirt sewed by hand by local women in Chiapas. All this to promote the small producers around the country.
The hotel is full of little details everywhere you look. Different styles, the traditional Mexican together with the vanguardist, it must have been difficult to make everything fit together. But they managed. Good job! Many paper flowers make it more vivid. There are 21 rooms in the hotel, distributed at 3 floors, out of which 8 rooms have a balcony, 2 are Master Suites and 2 Penthouse. Every room carries a name of a Mexican song, together with a number. Around the door to each room there are black flowers painted next to the name of the room.
I stayed in a room 33 called cien años. It has the kitchen which I so liked because not many hotels offer you a room with your own fully equiped kitchen, mostly it is just a little fridge. Next year the roof with the view of the centre and the catedral will have a jacuzzi for 14 people and chairs for sunbathing. Wow, I will have to come back then :)
In the eyes of the owners of Hotel Catedral, what is more important is a very comfortable mattress so the visitors can have a good sleep, a great air conditioning so they do not feel very hot in that hot weather and a nice flat screen with 72 TV channels. And I have to say, the bed was really good as I usually can’t sleep properly but there I could without any problems. And all the pillows are different, they are bigger, smaller, softer, tougher, for sure you can find one you like.
Every room is designed in a different colour, from blue, to pink, red, green or orange. There is a reading room, which is basically a terrace at the first floor, with sofa and chairs to relax and read, or go online if you have a laptop. You can choose from the books they have here at the shelfs or take your own book. In the morning, 7am to 11am, coffee, tea and biscuits are available downstairs in the breakfast room La Flor de la Canela, just help yourself and enjoy the noise of the water from the little fountain and the green trees around you.
The hotel is very clean and fresh. You get a litre of water per day. Wifi is available for free in the hotel. And you get another thing, a mobile phone, instead of the landline in your room, so you can take it with you when you go for a tour in the town and get phone calls without having to stay in the room. And it lets you stay in touch with the hotel for free, in case you need anything.
All the hosts of Hotel Catedral have 10% discount for the drinks and meals in Amapa Beach Club, and you get for free a beach towel and chairs for sunbathing. The club can be found at Los Muertos Beach just 7 minutes walking from the hotel.
Last but not least, Hotel Catedral is for sure the best choice to stay over in Puerto Vallarta. And in 2012 when they open the jacuzzi at the roof, one will not be able to say no to the hotel.
My stay in hotel Catedral was a press stay thanks to hotel Catedral . I loved the stay! However, all the opinions are honest and just mine.
