The most exciting city beaches in the world
If you are not sure if you want to enjoy a city break or a beach holiday, do not worry you do not have to choose between the two. It is actually quite easy to do both.
Some of the best beaches in the world are located on the edges of cities. They are typically well kept, lively and well-appointed beaches, so you are bound to have a good time. It is great to be able to get up from sunbathing, slip on a sundress and be dining in a fine restaurant or going shopping within minutes. Here are some of the best of them.
The most exciting city beaches in the world
Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Let’s start with the most famous city beach in the world, Ipanema Beach Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This mile-long beach has got the lot. At one end, the city is just a few steps away. The other end is backed by steep granite cliffs topped with jungle trees. It is a busy beach, but still one of the best in the world. When you are tired of the sea and sand, take a stroll along the palm-lined boardwalk.
It is also a great place for celebrity watching. Just try to grab a spot near the middle of the beach, by the big palm tree the “Coqueirão”. You never know you may even end up seeing the famous “girl from Ipanema”. The woman who inspired the composers of this song still goes there occasionally.
Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California
This is an exciting and energetic beach. Along most of its 7-mile length, it has a 500-foot wide band of pristine golden sand. The surfing is good here too.
There is plenty of room for everyone, especially because there is a wide boardwalk that runs along much of its length. If you want to join the local dance rollerblades, skateboarders, and bikers you can. It is really easy to hire what you need.
Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii
This two-mile long white sand beach is lined with beautiful palm trees. It is also very lively. Understandably, tourists flock here. It also has quite a big surfing community.
There is plenty of space to stretch out on the sand. But, if you want to be more active there is plenty of choice. You can go scuba diving, paddle a traditional outrigger canoe, try flyboarding or parasailing and a range of other water sports.
South Beach (SoBe), Miami, USA
If you like partying, this is the beach for you. SoBe in the US has white sand, crystal clear water, art deco buildings to enjoy during the day. In the evenings, things hot up as the clubs and bars start to turn the volume up.
