The New eVisa to enter South Africa
South Africa is an incredible destination that is attracting more and more foreign visitors each year. The new South Africa visa will be an electronic travel authorization for citizens of eligible countries, designed to make it easier for tourists to visit the country.
Earlier in September this year, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba announced several changes to the South Africa visa system, one of them being the introduction of an online visa to visit South Africa. The new eVisa for South Africa will be tested in New Zealand in April 2019.
The pilot in New Zealand will allow the South African government to identify issues with the new system. Gigaba said, “Once glitches identified during the pilot have been addressed, the eVisa will be rolled out to other countries.” One of the goals behind introducing this system is to contribute to the growth of the tourism sector. “Electronic visas will boost the tourism industry by cutting turnaround times for the issuing of travel documentation while ensuring the information of applicants is secure,” Shadow Minister of Tourism James Vos said.
Several countries around the world already have online visa systems in place to facilitate travel and increase security. Obtaining an electronic visa saves travelers the hassle of going to an embassy or consulate. Those who wish to visit South Africa in the future will be able to obtain their South Africa visa by completing an online form.
What is the eVisa for South Africa?
The eVisa for South Africa will be an online visa that authorizes travel to the country. Once it becomes available, foreign visitors from eligible countries will be able to obtain their visa through the South Africa eVisa online form. Applicants will be required to provide their personal details and their passport information.
In order to obtain the eVisa for South Africa, travelers who wish to travel to South Africa must have a valid passport. Other additional requirements to get the visa will be announced by the South African government in the coming months.
In 2017, over 16 million tourists visited South Africa. The number of foreign visitors is expected to increase to 19.5 million by 2022 and the eVisa for South Africa will play an important role in reaching this number.
How to Apply for the Online Visa for South Africa?
The South African government will be testing the online visa system in New Zealand in April 2019. This means that citizens of New Zealand will be able to obtain the eVisa for South Africa by completing an online form.
To apply for the electronic visa, the applicant will simply need a tablet, mobile or computer, and an Internet connection. Applicants will need a valid passport and an email address. The online application form will require that travelers provide essential information such as their full name, place of birth and all of their passport details.
After an application has been submitted, it will be processed by the South African visa system. Once approved, the eVisa for South Africa will be sent by email to the applicant.
