If you’re planning to go on vacation in New York, you probably have many things you want to do while you’re in the city. While there are many attractions you will want to visit, you definitely don’t want to forget to check out Central Park while you’re there. Central Park has been a big attraction for years and thousands of people go through there each day. As one of the most popular parks in the United States, there is plenty to see and do there. Take a Ride on the Carousel
While you’re visiting Central Park, you’ll definitely want to take a ride on the carousel. While the current carousel has been located in the park since 1950, the park has always had a carousel since back in 1871. The current carousel has hand carved figures that are hand painted. Adults and children can both ride the carousel and the cost is reasonable.
Picnic in the Park
If you want to get the real feel of New York City, take the time to picnic in Central Park. It’s a great way to enjoy the scenery while watching all the people go by. Take a picnic lunch with you and enjoy spreading out on the Great Lawn. The Sheep Meadow is another popular place to go picnicking.
Enjoy a Concert
You’ll find that many musical events are held in Central Park during the summer months. Almost every type of music comes to the park, from rock music, to pop music and classical music. Many concerts take place in the evenings, but you will find some music events during the day as well. Check the park’s website to find out when music events will take place so you can decide which ones you want to attend.
Go on a Walking Tour
There is much to see in New York’s Central Park, so it’s a wonderful idea to take a walking tour so you can explore the park. Free walking tours are held in the park and can be found in the Central Park Conservancy. More than 10 walks can be enjoyed and most walking tours will last from 60-90 minutes.
Go Boating
Central Park boasts a lake and you can hire a boat from the Loeb Boathouse so you can enjoy going out on the lake yourself. The boats that are available are rowboats and are reasonably priced. You can hire them for about $10 per hour. Boats are only available during good weather. You can also hire gondola rides on the lake, although these boat rides are more expensive and usually require an advance reservation.
Shakespeare in the Park
You’ve probably heard about Shakespeare in the Park, but now is your chance to experience it. Every summer productions are held in the park, although not every one is a Shakespeare play. Tickets are free for these performances, but you will have to line up before the performance to get the tickets you want.

I’ve always wanted to catch a Shakespearan play at the park. Never synced my NYC visit with the shows. Pre-plan is a must! I must pre-plan. Maybe in our NYC visit we’ll catch a play.
