Update on 2011 resolution
Five weeks have passed from New Year 2011 already. It seems only like yesterday when I wished you all the best in 2011. Time really flies by. But in those first 5 weeks of 2011 I have done so many things and I can be proud of myself.
I have seen some of my great friends after ages and most of all I spent a month with my best family in my hometown Snina. I did what I always do during my holidays in Slovakia. Gave the right meniscus knee a bit of needed rest. But most of all, I finally managed to finish the University and to M.A. degree from Spanish philology 2 years later I added the one from English, too. I am the happiest ever!
On the 6th Feb I came back to Brindisi, Italy. Just realized it has been a year since I moved here from Scotland. Unbelievable. Passed so fast. I have spent a lot of time thinking about my current job of cabin crew and today I decided to make a decision… maybe the hardest one so far in my life. It is never easy to change your life, isn’t it? But as always something ends and something new begins, today I gave a month notice to quit my job. I have had enough of bad treatment, I deserve better. Why should I stay somewhere where they do not appreciate me? Yes, I’ve had a lot of free time and quite good money for not working much. I know I would never earn the same back home in Slovakia under the same conditions.
I am aware of it, trust me! But wise men learn by other men’s mistake, right? And as many people choose to have a stable work and every month on the same day look at more zeros at the bank account, I chose not to have the safe stability but to be happy instead, which is what is important in my opinion. It is not worth all the nerves. I do not want to waste any more time and the only life I have. It is true I did travel a lot during the last 2 years of working as cabin crew. I have crossed all over Europe so many times but it was the only thing I always looked forward to, I did not live in the present when I was at work. Yes, many people would stay just because of this. But money and free time are the only 2 pros while I see many many cons of live of a cabin crew. I was unhappy at work and I prefer to make my dream come true.
And the good news comes now. Once I’m done with cabin crew work in the beginning of March, I’m leaving to M e x i c o. It has been the country of my dreams since I was like 5-year-old. Why Mexico you ask? The culture there is so different from the one here in Europe which makes it pretty interesting. I guess it’s a some kind of obsession, but I know so much about this beautiful country and I even wrote a 100 page final work at the University about the Aztec Empire in Mexico. If I do not go there now when I’m free, would I ever go there later with a husband and kids? No one knows. I hate to be sorry for something I wanted to do but did not do … so THE RIGHT TIME is now, I feel it in the bones, as we say at home :) No, seriously my very good 6th sense tells me to quit job and go to Mexico, so hope it will be right once again! It can look like a very quick decision and mostly an immature one, but it is the opposite, I believe. People choose the comfortable, I choose fun adventures and happiness. It could have look like I had it all – a dream job and life. But las apariencias engañan. Probably very soon I will be singing I’ve had the time of my life and I never felt the same before, Yes I swear, it’s the truth … I believe it! Just wish me luck in Mexico. And if you know about some great job offers over there, I’d appreciate a lot!
Of course, I am already sad to leave people I love and go so far. Mexico is going to be the 6th country I have lived in, after Slovakia, Czech Republic, Spain, Scotland and Italy. For sure I will enjoy it there to maximum and be able to adapt very quickly. Nachos con guacamole for breakfast, my stomach is already asking for it! Yummy!!
What do you all think about my decision? Just do not say it is so dangerous in Mexico, my answer is it is dangerous everywhere!
If you live in Mexico or going to be there any time soon, let me know, I would love to meet up with as many crazy traveler as possible :) All the advice about what is worth to see is very welcome!

Thanks, Patrick! I am not heading to Brazil during this SA trip unfortunately but next time I will ;)
Yeah, I love boats and always wanted to spend more time on one but never really wanted to work there :D

No regrets! Go for it, I considered working on a boat for awhile but never did because I heard how poorly they treat you.
Suerte amiguita, si te vas a venir por el norte de Brasil, debes mandarme un mensaje.
Chao, boa viagem

Thanks Duane! I know, the violence and crime are very bad there etc. But I just have to visit my dream country asap :) I’ll be moving a lot over Mexico, definitely some time in Cancun, too.

So I assume you’ll be living by Cancun?
Mexico is great, but it’s definitely not a first world country in many parts. I’m sure you’ll have a great time, especially if you like the Culture, but you may find yourself missing some of the aspects of Europe in short order. But sounds like a great adventure – enjoy!

I know Matt, just realized it! Shame, right? But as we both are like birds flying all over the world, we could meet up somewhere! :)
