Vegan Sofia Bulgaria – where to eat vegan in Sofia
Before my visit to Sofia I was a bit scared I would not have much to eat. But once we got there and I did some online research about vegan Sofia, I was nicely surprised to see so many vegan and vegetarian restaurants all around the city center. Many non-vegan restaurants offer also some vegan meals, and there’s even fully vegan restaurants. Oh yes! Instead of losing weight I did put on a kilogram just after 48 hours there… Well, if you check the photos below, you won’t judge me any more :D
TIP: read my article about what to do in Sofia in 2 days.
5 places where to eat vegan in Sofia
1. Loving Hut
My very favorite restaurant to get vegan meals in Sofia was Loving Hut. The fully vegan restaurant was just a 5 minute walk from our hotel but unfortunately we found it on our last day just before leaving Sofia to go to Nis. But at least I had a perfect vegan lunch as a goodbye present.
Loving Hut Sofia offers many raw vegan meals, both salty and sweet, and also some cooked vegan options. I tried a super yummy chocolate brownie. Will never forget the feeling of the brownie melting in my mouth! Heaven! Then I also tasted a piece of pizza with vegan cheese and a sort of a veggie falafel. Everything was delicious, and even the staff members were super sweet.
2. Dream House
Vegetarian restaurant Dream House was located just a minute walk from our hotel. So when I found out it was open, I had to go there.
I tasted just 2 meals. Raw cacao mousse dessert was delicious, indeed, and very similar to what I make at home when I have a mature avocado and I’m craving something sweet. Then I had a plate of quinoa with zucchini. It was very simple, but yummy. The meals there looked similar to what I would prepare at home. Not too many ingredients in one meal which is easier on digestion. If you are looking for something simple and tasty, but not very fancy, Dream House is a good pick. And the restaurant design is very cool, too!
3. Afreddo Gelateria
It was extremely hot when we visited Sofia but I did not even dream of any vegan ice cream in Sofia. But then we found vegan fruit sorbets at the Afreddo gelateria right in the middle of the Vitosha Boulevard. It’s a shame they don’t label ice cream as vegan. However, if you ask, they will tell you exactly which sorbets are vegan. Mango and strawberry flavors are those I enjoyed the most.
Sorry for the blurry photo, I didn’t have my Nikon DSLR camera with me at that time. Took the photo with my phone but it was getting dark already so it’s a bit vague.
4. Wok to Walk
At Wok to Walk on the Vitosha Boulevard they have rice noodles with veggies/mushrooms. You need to ask them to make them for you without eggs so then the meal will be vegan. Otherwise it’s a vegetarian meal. The noodles were tasty but then at the bottom they felt too salty for me. If I remember it right, they also have another vegan meal which already is vegan (no need to ask them not to add some ingredients). It was written in the bottom left part of the menu. I mean, hopefully I could read and understand Bulgarian well :D
5. Patisserie de Provence
At the beginning of the Vitosha Boulevard just by the McDonald’s there’s also a small Patisserie de Provence. It’s located just a few metres from Wok to Walk, across the Boulevard. They have some pizza and foccacia but also vegan pizza if you are craving something less healthy and don’t mind gluten. I tried a piece, it was tasty, but I was still missing some vegan cheese on top. It was very different to the vegan pizza at Loving Hut, not bad at all, but I prefered the one in Loving Hut.

There are a lot more restaurants where you can get healthy vegan meals in Sofia, but I didn’t have more time to try them. I visited Sofia just for 2 days.
