Where to stay in New Yok City – classic hotel Elysee
Staying in New York City is not really possible on a budget. Accommodation in Big Apple is much more expensive than you would expect – it was one of the surprising facts I found out about New York City during my 2-week stay there. But at least now I can definitely help you when choosing the best deal for a good price. Depending on what you might be looking for, one of my picks is Hotel Elysée.
Elysée Hotel built in 1920’s is one of those calm, luxurious and elegant hotels in busy Manhattan that makes you go back in time to the ”Old New York”. I had a great time there and this is why:
- perfect location – in Midtown, 60 East 54th Street (between Park and Madison Avenues), close to anything in Manhattan but still away from all the hustle and bustle of it
- home of the famous Monkey Bar – one of the finest French restaurants in NYC
- place of many artists, movie stars and writers over the years – you never know who famous you could meet here so keep your eyes open :)
- it was named Best Small New York Hotel by Travel and Leisure Magazine
- it was twice voted the most romantic hotel in NYC by Citysearch
- very helpful and smiling staff (thank you, guys!)
- free wifi around the hotel, and both wifi and cable internet in the rooms which come handy
- free continental breakfast
- free fruit, coffee and tea throughout the day in the Club room
- piano and books in the Club room
- complimentary wine and cheese selection from 5 pm to 8 pm
- complimentary bottle of the wine, 2 half liter bottles of water and tasty Leonidas chocolate after checking in your room
- classical pictures on the wall that fit the whole hotel Old New York style
- door bell at every room door which I really appreciated as I never hear someone knocking on the door when I am in the bathroom or listening to the music but I always heard the door bell
- magazines about New York City – very useful tips for dining, places to visit and things to do
- complimentary DVD library – in case you are bored which should not happen in city that never sleeps
- Hotel Elysée is a no smoking hotel – oh yeah! I hate smoke so not having to breathe it and being able to enjoy fresh air in my room was priceless for me
- hair dryer and free toiletries in the bathroom
- telephone in the bathroom in case you need something
- free health club passes to New York Sports Club around Manhattan
- radio and alarm device to plug in your iPod too
- safe, TV, iron and ironing board and bathing robes in rooms
- good for business travel and meetings
- comfy bed
- smooth carpets in the room -I really loved those as I walk barefoot all the time
My stay in hotel Elysee was a press trip. All the thoughts in this article are my own. For more information about Hotel Elysée, visit Hotel Elysée website.
