Where to stay in Salta – Alquimia Hostel
After spending a month in Chile, I actually still had 4 more days before going to Bolivia so I decided to visit Salta (La Linda – the Pretty One as everyone calls it) as have heard many great things about it. I chose Alquimia hostel as my place to stay and my work place for those 4 days.
What I liked about Alquimia hostel:
- location – situated at Vicente Lopez 386. It is close to city centre but not too close, so still out of all the hustle and bustle of the centre. Just some 15 minutes walking from the main square Plaza 9 de Julio and 15 minutes as well from the bus station so moving around Salta town is pretty easy – without using public transport as it is easy to walk anywhere in the town.
- safety – there are lockers in the rooms and the main doors of the hostel are locked and only open for those staying in the hostel. I felt extremely safe there.
- the best staff – all the people working in the hostel, from Diego, Carolina, to Gaston and Rodrigo are simply the best! In a good mood all the time, they can get you all the information you need about Salta, surroundings and even Bolivia, and Diego even can pass you some good movies or music if you want :)
- fast wifi connection – as I work online, this is very important for me as you can imagine. I spent a lot of time online when in Alquimia hostel and the wifi was always very good and fast.

- more bathrooms – you don’t have to be scared that you won’t make it to the bathroom as there is always one empty.
- TV – in the dining room there is a big TV.

- hot shower – 24/7 there is hot shower for your use.
- fully-equipped kitchen – with microwave, fridge, plates, salt, spices etc.

- medical assistance – in case something happens to you.
- 2 computers with internet – if you don’t have your own laptop, you can still use internet.
- a terrace to enjoy sunny days

- great music played in the hostel during the day
- breakfast included – fresh bread from the bakery next door, toasts, different kinds of marmalade, tea and coffee. I loved it. And to see Carolina’s smile (one of the receptionists) every morning, it will make your breakfast even better and make up your day.

- respecting the night hours – after midnight, the complete silence is in the hostel so no worries that you won’t be able to sleep properly
- affordable prices – for all this, you don’t have to pay much ;)
- both shared rooms and private rooms – a shared room up to 7 people (good if you come in a big group) or private rooms for 1 – 3 people.

- excursions – at the reception, you can book excursions, sightseeing tours or horse-riding
- friendly atmosphere – when I was there, I felt like in a family. With the staff and other people staying over there, we became good friends, shared meals, chatted a lot …
- family and pets friendly – there was a family with a cute little dog when I was there, so funny!
- BBQ – as you all know, Argentina is famous for its asado – parrilla and in the hostel more times per week you have a chance to be part of the traditional Argentine asado. Diego is an expert in preparing the meat and with all the salads (both hot and cold vegetable), bread and wine, it will be the tastiest dinner you have had for ages! The cost of the dinner is 40 pesos but the taste and the atmosphere is priceless ;)
