Fun adventure in Xplor Fuego Cancun
One afternoon I was picked up in Playa del Carmen to go to Xplor Fuego Cancun park. It was on my bucket list for 3 years since I visited the area for the first time in 2011.
Yay, finally will do another fun adventure I will never forget!
I meditated in the van trying to prepare myself mentally for a lot of fun. Then, at the entrance, we signed some forms, got a bracelet and a helmet, and together with my friend Leo we could start the adventure.
I felt incredible connection to the place the very first second when I stepped into the Xplor park. The check in was inside a cave!
I mean a big part of the Xplor park is located in original caves and cenotes! How cool is that?
”Xplor with the Anthropology Museum in Mexico are the only two companies in Mexico that are allowed to research the fossils.” started the explanation Leo.
I could spend hours just staring at all the stalagmites, stalactites and other formations lit by romantic reddish and orange lights.
There were also a few fossil reproductions and skeletons of dinosaurs around. It just aroused my childish curiosity in me.
I don’t even remember when I felt so much like a child, so free, so spontaneous, so I-don’t-care-what-others-think and so let’s-do-it as I did in Xplor Fuego Cancun.
And the nicest part? This was the right place to feel that way. I could surrender completely and enjoy the fun adventure to maximum laughing, shouting and getting wet. I stood under a stream of cold water and screamed for a minute as if no one could hear me.
And indeed, no one cared. Because many others were doing the same :)
The coolest detail about Xplor is the heart presence. There’s a few red stone hearts around the park and a huge heart in the middle of the park where you can even hear the heartbeat and take a photo with it.
We changed into clothes that could get wet, and also water shoes (or barefoot like me) and left our things in the lockers. With a helmet on the head, let’s rock!
There’s 4 different fun adventure activities you can do in Xpor Fuego Cancun:
We did them in this order as this is how less people do them – more privacy :)
Underground River
I have been to many underground rivers when visiting cenotes in Mexico but this is the only one that resembles a lava stream!
Yes, the incandescent red lights and bubbling water will make you feel like inside of a volcano for a while. At least until you enter the water stream as it’s cold and not warm water :D
You can do a short or a long tour here just floating or swimming along the stream. Very unique!
Then on the way to the rafts, we passed around one of the towers where the zipline takes place and in the middle of it, the raindrops were getting in and falling on my head when standing on the suspension bridge and looking down into the deep well. That was the most freeing feeling ever! I felt incredible boost of energy all around my body.
I don’t usually like rain when doing any outdoor activities but the storm and later on just light rain while enjoying the Xplor Fuego Cancun park seemed as if it was part of the game.
The fire element of Xplor Fuego activities all around + the water element of the rain + the Earth element of walking barefoot + the air element of the breeze = HEAVEN for me :)
Oh, and then we had coconut atole drink and chocolate empurrado, loved them!
Underground rafts
Our second activity in Xplor Fuego Cancun park was the underground rafts where you paddle wearing a sort of flip flops on your hands :D
Thankfully, Leo was there with me so he could paddle and I could just enjoy all the cavern formations and take some pics.
I have no words to describe the experience. It seemed so unreal! I can still feel my heartbeat when I remember those minutes on the underground rafts.
Zipline
Then it was finally time for one of my favorite activities ever – zipline!
The storm was gone, so the zipline was opened again as it was not dangerous any more again.
Each time we had to walk up a tower, drop ourselves on a zipline and do it again on a different one until we finished the last 7th zipline in a water next to a dinosaur skeleton :D
It was my first time ever I did a zipline at night.
Fresh air after rain, with jungle sounds around and fire torches? Hell yeah!
Amphibious Vehicles
If you have been following my adventures for longer, then you know I am not a big fan of driving. To be honest, not at all. So I was really glad Leo was there with me. He drove and I was just screaming and taking videos :)
Night, dark, sometimes fire lighting our path … suspension bridges, water paddles, driving through the caverns … I did not know where to look :D
We finished our adventure with dinner at the restaurant El Troglodito (troglodit in English). Loved the big variety of fruit and salads and also got a very cute surprise – a little heart cake with my name :) PS: be sure to check out the toilets here and have a look at the funny signs.
So all the adventurous souls out there, listen! I highly recommend you to visit Xplor Fuego Cancun park. You can do similar activities during the day, too in Xplor park but Xplor Fuego at night simply adds way cooler touch to it.
